Today’s first landing point is Halde Rheinpreussen in Moers, where a bright red miner’s lamp, visible from the A42, forms a landmark for the western Ruhr region at an altitude of 100 meters. The design comes from the famous artist Otto Piene, the lamp is beautifully lit in the evening. Personally I find the design a bit too literal, my favorite is a little further on the A42; the light artwork in the former blast furnaces of Duisburg-Meiderich by Jonathan Park.
